Lady Liberty’s View

A little boy stood crying...

rivers flowing from each eye

Looking up at me he said…

“Did you see my Daddy die?"

"He had worked across the river

in those big ole shiny towers

But now… for my Mom’s Birthday,

it's up to me to pick the flowers.”

Yes, I saw what happened,

on the clear September day

I knew it was no accident…

from the very first display

I tried to close my eyes…

but I was scared... I could not move

And I watched all those brave Heroes,

they have nothing left to prove

I think I saw his Dad that day...

he was truly strong and brave

I saw him stay behind to help…

many lives he sure did save

Others got out safely...

because of the things his Dad had done

He was a Hero on that day, to me,

our Nation and to most of all... his son

But no, I didn't see his Daddy die,

I saw him stand his ground

He stood so proud and brave…

with smoke and terror all around

He fought back against the terrorists,

without a weapon or a gun

He stayed there helping others,

he was scared... but would not run

Oh, how I wish that I could speak…

if I could, I’d tell this little boy:

Your Dad is always with you,

you’ll always be his Pride and Joy

He’ll be the warmth you feel,

as mom tucks you in each night

Special people like your Dad, don’t die,

they simply go beyond our sight

So don’t worry if you’re afraid or scared,

it’s ok to feel that way

See what matters is how you react…

like your Dad did on that day

He knows you miss him and want him back,

just like those big ole shiny towers

But he’ll always be right by your side,

especially... as you pick Mom’s Birthday flowers.
